Old Smyrna Cemetery Gratis, Walton County, GA
On 30 April 1992, my father, his sisters and brothers, their spouses and I spent the day cleaning our ancestor's graves at the Old Smyrna Cemetery.
None of my older relatives had been to this cemetery that I had found a year earlier. My great great grandfather - Abraham Pickens Harrison is buried there as is his brother and two sons.
Here are photos of the day we spent together .... a day I will never forget.
Oh, by the way - even though these people were OLD - I couldn't keep up with them!
All through my life, I remember my Grandmother Ola Irene McMurrian Zorn reciting this each and every time we passed a cemetery. She always added the last verse, under her breath!
Remember, friend, as you pass by As you are now, so once was I; As I am now, you too shall be, Prepare, my friend, to follow me.
....To follow you I'm not content Until I know which way you went!.....
